The Lord's Taverners

Mary has been a member of 'The Young Lord's Taverners' (YLT's) for over three years. The YLT's is an extension of the "The Lord's Taverners", which was founded in 1950. The charity organisation raises money to help give young people, particularly those with special needs, a sporting chance.

It has now been a year since Mary joined the committee where recently she played an important role in the organisation of the YLT's annual winter ball. Mary recently appeared in the Lord's Taverner's 'Long Room magazine', which was released in January 2006. Please refer belwo for the article and Marys other projects.

Actress Mary Betts joined The Young Lord's Taverners three years ago following the footsteps of her parents. Mary, 22, has recently been playing The Jungle Book's sexy, hypnotic snake. This involved operating a huge puppet by both herself and another actor "The puppet was incredibly heavy to hold, it was a very physical part to play and during rehearsals I had problems synchronising its mouth and trying to make the puppet and I move as one," said Mary who had lots of fun as the script called for her to choose 'the most tasty child' in the audience to eat! Brought up in Reading, Mary has performing arts in three generations of family and became hooked from the age of 4 when she first went to dance school. She has toured all over the country and said that the Theatre Royal in Newcastle was one of her favourites. Looking to the future, Mary would like to act in films and also produce an African wildlife or cultural documentary. A chocoholic and a collector of shoes, her favourite restaurant is Aval du Creux Hotel, which specialises in lobster, on the island of Sark. Mary also enjoys low key dinners with good food and good company. She rates last year's YLT Ball as one of her most fun nights out with the YLT's (or what she can remember of it). She would love to organise an event on Sark, perhaps a cricket match between The Lord's Taverners and The Young Lord's Taverners. If she could persuade the YLT President to attend she knows it would really be a success. (Let's hope she can!) For more information on The Lords Taverners please visit www.lordstaverners.org
